Iván Monreal: the career and philosophy of a sommelier

My story

I was 17 when I left for Germany. Far from home, an adventure began that would shape my life. There I discovered the world of sommellerie and began my studies with the Associazione Italiana Sommelier (AIS). Back then I couldn't imagine that this first step would be the start of a path that would lead me to work for years in some of the most prestigious restaurants in Europe.

Germany, France, Austria, Italy, Mallorca… My career has allowed me to get to know different food cultures and to work for years in one-, two- and three-Michelin-star restaurants, such as Amador, Olivo and Tristán.

That experience taught me that excellence doesn't lie only in the product, but also in the small details, knowledge, sensitivity and the ability to move whoever sits at the table.

Over the years, wine stopped being simply my profession. It became my way of understanding the world: a way to travel, discover territories, meet people and find stories in every bottle.

Along the way I've been fortunate to receive important awards: runner-up in the Spanish Sommelier Championship, Canary Islands champion twice, runner-up in the Ruinart Challenge Spain, the award for the Best Wine List in the Canary Islands 2025 and a place in the Top 100 Sommeliers Spain 2026 (10/100).

In 2026 came an especially meaningful recognition: being named Canary Wine Ambassador. I receive it with pride and, above all, with the commitment to keep sharing the richness and uniqueness of our wines.

Each achievement represents many hours of study, effort and shared learning. But wine always has something new to teach, and that is precisely one of the things I love most about it.

With Iván Monreal Somm I want to bring wine closer to people in a professional, friendly way and without unnecessary complications. Through my tastings, training and experiences, I want every gathering to be an opportunity to discover, learn and enjoy.

Because you don't need to be an expert to be moved by a wine. All it takes is curiosity.
